STATIC SHOCK RECORDS NEWSLETTER - 16TH FEB 2018

So I just typed this out and lost the entire thing when I clicked send, so this version is going to be somewhat more brief. Probably for the best anyhow. I've got another record out today, plus some much needed represses of the URANIUM CLUB and TV CRIME records. Let's go straight into it:

NEW RELEASE:

SSR056: BETA BLOCKERS - STIFF PRESCRIPTION MLP

One of the new faces of Sheffield and Leeds punk (though members also keep busy in The Flex, No Form, Whipping Post and Community), Beta Blockers are here with their debut 12". What do they sound like? They sound like Die Kreuzen fucking about with the Screamers, or maybe Black Flag smashing gurners with Neubauten, or how about Stooges getting punished by the Gallagher brothers, maybe even all of those at the same time. Seven songs in eighteen minutes, housed in a heavyweight sleeve featuring artwork from Keegan Dakkar Lomanto. Limited to 300 copies, all on white vinyl.

ORDER: http://staticshockrecords.limitedrun.com

REPRESS DEPT:

SSR048: URANIUM CLUB - ALL OF THEM NATURALS LP“All Of Them Naturals” is a fully realized, inclusive world of faux-corporation sponsored surrealist new wave punk music rife with satire and discordance. Robotically tight. Delightfully warped. Ideas as vast as Nebraska’s GMO cornfields and as lethal as the pesticides they spray on them. Did the Sunbelt Chemicals Corporation invent DDT? Maybe. Did they invent man? They think so. Did they invent the wheel? No, that was URANIUM CLUB. Truly, our generation’s DEVO. An important group." - Jensen Ward

SSR033: URANIUM CLUB - HUMAN EXPLORATION LP"Originally released as a cassette, the debut from Minneapolis' Uranium Club is now widely available as an LP. Uranium Club play a kind of minimalist, agitated, catchy punk rock that reminds us of Wire before they released 'Pink Flag', but with an extra snotty attitude and bundles of energy. For a more recent comparison try early Total Control or the Shitty Limits. Each of the seven tracks on here explode from the vinyl, with each track more energetic than the one before, and they'll all be stuck in your head for weeks afterwards."

SSR042: TV CRIME - HOOLIGANS 7"Repressed on white vinyl! Debut Single from TV Crime who are a new garage punk / power pop band from Nottingham who come fully formed. 'Hooligans' is a total stomper of a power pop song that starts like a classic Good Vibrations Records 7" with The Moondogs esque guitar work and the energy of 90's legends New Bomb Turks or Gaunt. Flip 'Wild One' is another pounder but with a more rock 'n' roll twist. As the band say "Killer Tunes - Shitty Attitude".

In other news, I've just had to reject test presses for the upcoming COLD MEAT and BLAZING EYE 7"s, which was a bummer, but what can you do. Hopefully they'll be corrected and on the way to coming out ASAP. IDIOTA CIVILIZZATO and KRIMEWATCH have both recently recorded LP's, and I should have more news on those shortly.

That's it for now, until next time!

BETA BLOCKERS - Stiff Prescription streaming now

Here's our newest release. Vinyl is out a week today, but you can stream it in full now at the link below!

SSR056: BETA BLOCKERS - 'STIFF PRESCRIPTION' MLP

Daniel from Sorry State offered his take on the record:

"Remember that time when Black Flag’s 'Live ’84' lineup jammed with Einst├╝rzende Neubauten? OK, so maybe that never happened, but if you took two stereos, cued up 'In My Head' on one and Neubauten’s 'Zeichnungen des Patienten O.T.' on the other, synced them up 'Zaireeka'-style and did enough acid so that they seemed to lock together into one roaring piece of gestalt, your experience would roughly approximate what we lucky citizens of the year 2017 can hear on this debut record from Beta Blockers. I keep coming back to this idea of duality in attempting to describe Beta Blockers because their music sounds like a tenuous, explosive marriage of ego and id. It’s a distant descendent of the Stooges’ 'Fun House' in that Beta Blockers’ rhythm section lurches and crawls with the raw, primal power of an apex predator, while the upper register of sound (on 'Fun House', the sax, but here a buzzing, whirring synth) engages in full sonic deconstruction… or maybe combat is the more appropriate metaphor? There’s certainly no truce between Beta Blockers’ deep-in-the-pocket hardcore and industrial noise elements… it’s less like they’re collaborating and more like they’re fighting, and if one side seems to gain the upper hand temporarily it only ends up making space for the other to build momentum and hit you with even greater force. Much like the other records I’ve mentioned thus far, Beta Blockers’ debut is neither immediate, easy, nor friendly, but if you seek out music that confounds, disorients, and overwhelms this record is just what the doctor ordered. THE NUMBER ONES 7" out now

Hell has indeed frozen over, and the new EP from THE NUMBER ONES is now available!

SSR040: THE NUMBER ONES - Another Side Of The Number Ones 7"
"Three years since their debut LP, Dublin's The Number Ones return with a new four track EP that confirms them as kings of pop. ‘Lie to Me’ is a bitter sweet pop song that oozes golden melodies and youthful energy. After one play it’s stuck in your mind and after repeated plays you’ll wonder how you lived without this song in your life. It’s a mix of a classic Good Vibrations single and The Senseless Things before they signed to a major label. ‘Long Way to Go’ is the perfect three minute pop song that could have been released in either in 1979 or 1967. It’s a bubblegum nugget that hints at a record collection full of the Beatles, The Nerves and Protex. On the flip ‘You're So Happy I Could Cry’ keeps the energy and hooks coming whilst ‘Breaking Loose’ has bounce, charm and those gorgeous harmonies that will see the Number Ones possibly break into the mainstream pop world." (Sean Forbes)

STATIC SHOCK WEEKEND 2017

2017. The world is pretty fucked and a lot of our lives tend to be one disappointment after another. What can you do about that? Nothing. We're all powerless. Everyone goes back on their word, and no-one can be trusted. To contribute to this, after kicking up a fuss about needing to take a year off, we're back in 2017 with another contribution to the overflowing calendar of fests. Sorry about that!

This year, the weekender will be mainly held in a new home, the ExFed /New River Studios warehouse complex in Manor House, and we're very excited to be there. Just like previous years, we're bringing over a selection of some of our favourite bands, this time from the UK, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Brazil and the USA, with hopefully one or two surprises along the way. As always you are encouraged to come see what you would like to see, and skip what you don't. Each line up has a mixed bill to keep things interesting.

Below is the final schedule with the full line up for each main show. There will also be afterparties each evening which will be announced shortly. You can now buy a weekend pass which will get you into all the shows listed below at discounted rate from this link:

To possibly save yourself a few moments:

YES:
- Individual show tickets will be made available next week.
- All official shows are all ages.
- There will be aftershows, dance parties will be announced in the coming weeks.
- We will be in need of volunteers, places for bands to sleep etc, and would love any help on that front. We'll put out the call in good time.
- We're excited to see all of you!

NO:
- The line up is full, and we also have a back up list in case anyone has to drop out. As much as you would like your goregrind band to jump on the bill, it's just not going to happen. Sorry.
- Gauze are still not on the bill. Just like every other festival.

IMPALERS - Cellar Dweller LP

The new LP from Austin's IMPALERS is now available to order!

SSR054: IMPALERS - Cellar Dweller LP

"Gasp, choke, puke, roll, die, live again. 10 songs to destruction, 10 songs to live, 10 songs that wrap up all the velocity and disturbance beneath planet earth. Impalers have Sweden in their back pocket, the U S of A dripping down the back of their legs, and use the designs that Anti-Cimex and Discard laid out to mop up the mess. There are other words to describe this blessed mess, but they become insufficient by the time the last track rolls around. In this case, Cellar Dweller can only be described as a party that you've been invited to but that you might not make it out of alive. Full colour, hellish and hilarious poster insert by Mason Tucker, and sterile, alienating, squint-to-focus-on-the-horror cover by the steamroller talent J.S. Aurelius. "When the Nukes Come Down I Keep it Underground" (J. Falco)

Limited red vinyl for mailorder.
